It’s official–the people have spoken!
Out of 100 respondants, 96 said that they preferred local Mom and Pop style restaurants to large chains. The reasoning for the 4 percent? According to the poll, convenience ranked highest amongst the choices which also included taste, affordability and location.
“Sometimes I want to go to a chain like Macaroni Grill or Applebee’s because I know what they have there and it’s the same thing across the country,” sophomore finance major Scott Topel said. “It’s comforting to know I’ll be happy with the food and be full when I leave.”
Those that indicated a preference for family-owned eateries said that personality and quality ranked high in influencing their decision.
“I tend to like family-owned places more because they value their costumers more,” said senior English major Marisa Desisto.
